THOUSAND LASHES

She shows me the eye
with a thousand lashes
and an eternal view and
I fall right in. She
squints and I am frozen,
burning inside, still and
fidgeting, impatient and
content, selfish and
generous, aggressive and
gentle, unwavering and
yielding, a red raider caught
in a prairie stitch, forever
finishing and never done.
